2007-11-01: Two new RSS Feeds added to GHRSST LTSRF
The GHRSST LTSRF site now has two new RSS feeds to go along with this feed:
one is an Operational Messages feed and the other is an automated
Operational Status feed. The Operational Messages feed is updated manually
whenever changes occur in the archival processes.
The Operational Status feed is updated automatically each day
and indicates the red/yellow/green status of the archival processes and how
many Archival Information Packages (AIPs, or NODC Accessions) were ingested
into the archive that day. The status is set to "red" when no AIPs were
ingested, "yellow" when between 1 and one less than the typical number
ingested each day are ingested (currently, the typical number is 20), and
"green" when the typical number or more are ingested (more than the
expected or typical number can be ingested when backlogs are being
processed).
2007-10-17: "The GHRSST Archive Today" automatic updates on LTSRF site
The GHRSST LTSRF web site now displays on its home page
daily-updated metrics showing archive volume, number of netCDF files,
and the number of NODC accessions. Look under the heading, "The GHRSST
Archive Today". These metrics are updated by a process which begins
automatically each day at 0700 UTC and normally concludes by 0900 UTC.
2007-10-12: GHRSST LTSRF publishes RSS Feed

data!
2007-01-30: Problem with HTTP/FTP/OPeNDAP Links
A problem was discovered today with the system that maintains the
HTTP/FTP/OPeNDAP links into the archive spaces where the GHRSST files
reside. The result of this problem was many empty and missing directories
after approximately day 336 of 2006. No data was ever missing and could
still be found using the Ocean Archive System. The problem has been
resolved and the full set of data access links are now online.
2007-01-23: GHRSST Data Nearing 10,000 Accessions!
As of January 23, 2007, the NODC LTSRF contains 9897 accessions! One
"accession" contains the data from one Regional Data Assembly Center, from
one sensor, for one day. These accessions make up nearly 3 Terabytes of
data, and every day more data are coming into the archive. Currently, data
are available back to 2005 but eventually the archive will contain
reprocessed GHRSST-formatted data back to 1985 and then late 1981.
2007-01-22: GHRSST Article for Bulletin of the AMS accepted
An article describing the GHRSST project has been accepted for publication
in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. No word yet on
when it will appear in print, but stay tuned!
2006-10-26: GHRSST Data Now Being Formally Archived at NODC
NODC has successfully completed the first major phase of its work to
develop the GODAE High Resolution SST (GHRSST) Long Term Stewardship and
Reanalysis Facility (LTSRF, http://ghrsst.nodc.noaa.gov). This first phase
was to implement the archive and long term stewardship aspects of the
system. NODC now automatically acquires, generates metadata, and formally
archives all of the GHRSST satellite SST data sets on a daily basis. These
data are all available via ftp
(ftp://data.nodc.noaa.gov/pub/data.nodc/ghrsst/), http
(http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/ghrsst/), and OPeNDAP
(http://data.nodc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/nph-dods/ghrsst/) . Currently, there
are over 7500 accessions in the NODC archive system for GHRSST Level 2P and
Level 4 SST data, all of which are searchable via the NODC Ocean Archive
System
(http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/Archive/Search) as
well. There are approximately 1 terabyte of compressed data in the archive
now (about 20 terabytes uncompressed) spanning 2005 and 2006 for AMSR-E,
AVHRR-16, AVHRR-17, AVHRR-18 (GAC and LAC/HRPT) , MODIS Aqua, SEVIRI,
AATSR, and TMI. MODIS Terra and GOES SSTs will be available soon as well.
Approximately 14 new accessions (each of which consists of satellite SST
data produced from one GHRSST Regional Data Assembly Center from one sensor
for one day) are added each day to the archive. The next phase
of NODC's effort is to develop in association with the international
community the ability to reprocess GHRSST data to create global, high
resolution gap-free reanalysis climate data records for SST. NODC will
also continue to augment and improve its archive, access, and stewardship
services for GHRSST data and information.

Ken Casey gave a short briefing to the NOAA NPOESS Data Exploitation Team.
The goals of the presentation were simple: to introduce GHRSST to the NOAA
program that will be handing tailored products from NPP and NPOESS. It is
likely that in some way this team would be involved in any future attempts
to get SST data from VIIRS and CMIS (the future sensors to fly on NPP
and/or NPOESS) into a GHRSST compatible format. The presentation is
provided below in PowerPoint and PDF formats:
